Why am I even mentioning any of this? When I was younger, everyone scoffed at the “hippies” . It was all “New Age voodoo crap”. Anything that involved natural healing, reflexology, “Eastern medicine”, all scoffed at as cultist, crazy, and pseudoscience. Now, I will agree that the worship of goddesses, etc goes against my belief and Ichoose not to accept that portion of their beliefs…but the rest of it? It was God’s first! He created it and designed us the way that the did.

That was the end of my rant…
Kristina asked me to revisit this idea in our blog. Today, I came across this article. It made me start thinking about this all over again.
Most of this is my opinion, but it is based on articles that I have read and information that I have accumulated over my life. It is in no way meant to be medical advice.
Kristina’s comment… So when did God’s plan for our healthcare become a bad thing? Annnnd when did big business and big government hop into bed together? Might be an answer for ya! I see the United States like a gigantic social experiment. Unfortunately, the fruits of our labors the last century are proving that people care abut money more than people care about people! Back to Kim:
If we look back at history, even as recently as 60 or 70 years ago, there was not as much cancer, ADHD, autism, MRSA, etc….you pick the current raging disease and then look back. It just didn’t happen as often. Everyone that I mention this to argues “well, they didn’t understand that this was a disease back then” or “the science wasn’t as good back then”. It is assumed that our ancestors where a bunch of illiterate idiots that had no idea how the bodies worked. But that’s not true. Leonardo da Vinci was pretty much dead on 500 years ago. Well, unless you were a woman. 🙂 And even with all of our advanced knowledge and technology, doctors have just finally figured out how the human knee really works. But a Doctor in 1879 France had already thought of this.
My point? Maybe we need to stop scoffing at our ancestors. Maybe old wives tales endured for so many years because they worked. Maybe the reason Methuselah lived to be 969 years old is because he ate non-adulterated food and used essential oils and other herbal and natural remedies that the ancients knew about. Maybe that is why Abraham and Sarah were able to have children so late in their lives. Maybe, just maybe, God knows a little more about our bodies than we do and maybe He has passed a long a few bits of wisdom we should listen to.
Today, we have access to more technology, greater knowledge, easier medical access, drugs for everything, and we can grow wheat on a rock in the middle of a desert that bugs won’t eat. (If the bugs won’t eat it, maybe we shouldn’t either!) We are also fatter, have more disease, and take more chemicals for our illnesses than ever before. Maybe, just maybe, we have moved away from God’s plan for our bodies. A plan where He was the healer, through things He provided naturally on this earth and knowledge that is recorded in the Bible. Maybe when we stopped eating the things we raised and started eating what was given (sold) to us, maybe we lost a vital connection. We have stopped being an agrarian society, where people knew what was going into their bodies because they had a hand to raising it. Now we allow huge corporate farms to medicate and poison and genetically alter our food, and we ask no questions. We go to the doctor and we do what they tell us to, take what they prescribe, and ask no questions, because we have been taught to shut up and just do what we are told because they are the experts. Have you ever had a bad reaction to a medication and when you tell your doctor, their response is “I didn’t know that could happen” or “That’s not a known side effect”, yet 5 minutes on Google and a visit to the drug company’s website shows you that it is a commonly know issue? Yeah, have had several of those, with reactions being everything from just unpleasant to life threatening for myself and family members.
My point? It is time for us to start taking responsibility for our health and well being. Stop buying into the sickness care industry and start focusing on our own wellness. And I believe the change starts by reconnecting with the Creator and going back to what His plan was for our healthcare. Maybe we should seek the natural alternatives first and not as a last resort when they doctors have given us an expiration date. Maybe we should ask for prayer for our illnesses. I have seen miraculous healings, and then the doctors try to explain the healing by saying that they must have been wrong about the disease!?! Am I saying that medicine is evil and we don’t need doctors? No. Absolutely not. There are times when you must go to a doctor and use medication. But we have turned our drugs and doctors into gods and people who seek God and natural remedies are the crazy whack jobs.
