HOW EXCITING that Young Living now offers makeup! HUGE thanks to the sweet Melissa Poepping for bringing this natural, toxin free, safe, health- promoting skincare and mineral makeup to the masses! Woohooo! For many moms I know, this is the last piece needed for a completely toxin free lifestyle. So, heck yeah!
Why choose Young Living’s Mineral Makeup? You mean, besides cuz Melissa Poepping made it?!? (She’s a Young living rock star. Just sayin’…) Because all these great makeup products are formulated without talc, which we now know can be a cancer causing agent, and without other ingredients known to be toxic to the human body, yet they’re commonly found in personal care products like bismuth, parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, and synthetic dyes & fragrances.
If those aren’t reason(s) enough, this makeup is also:
Richly pigmented
Has buildable color that blends beautifully to create different looks
Emphasizes natural beauty
Has long-lasting, all-day wear
Ideal for sensitive skin
Made with mineral-based ingredients
Is vegan friendly and
Not tested on animals

I know LOTS of us are curious about selecting the best foundation shade. Check out these tips:
Young living Savvy Minerals Foundation:
Young Living Mineral foundation is very forgiving. You can lighten or darken it by layering or blending the shades together. It won’t feel heavy, be cakey, fill in wrinkles or lines like I’ve heard other mineral makeups can do. Some ladies have ordered several shades to customize their colors year round. Lighter for the winter months, darker for summer months etc., and you can always mix and blend foundations and bronzers for your own perfect match. Here are some of those tips…
Check Your Veins – Push your sleeves up and look at the veins on the inside of your wrist. Are they blue or green? If they look more blue, you likely have cool undertones. If the veins look greenish, you’re warm.
The Jewelry Trick – Think about whether you look better in silver or gold jewelry. Typically, women with cool undertones look better in silver and platinum metals, and warm-toned women look better in gold.
The Neutral Test – Think about what neutral shades flatter you best. Do your skin, eyes, and face look better in bright white and black hues, or ivory, off-whites, and brown/tan shades? The first means you’re probably cool-toned and the latter means you’re a warm. Check this video for more tips on effective application of Young Living Savvy Minerals foundation:
Eye and Hair Color – Your natural eye and hair colors can help figure out your coloring. Customarily, cool people have eyes that are blue, gray, or green and have blond, brown, or black hair with blue, silver, violet and ash undertones. (I’m cool!!!) Conversely, warm-toned women usually have brown, amber, or hazel eyes with strawberry blond, red, brown, or black hair. Their hair tends to have gold, red, orange, or yellow undertones.
The Sun’s Effects – When you’re out in the sun, does your skin turn a golden-brown, or does it burn and turn pink first? If you fit into the first category, you’re warm-toned, while cool tones tend to burn. Take a look at what our foundations look like on skin right here:
How to get the best, most even coverage:
Cleanse your face with Young Living’s ART Cleanser, then prime it with the ART Renewal Serum and ART Light Moisturizer to ensure you have a clean canvas and something for the minerals to adhere to. Then, spray your foundation brush with the Misting Spray and apply all over. Blend with the bronzer if you’d like to do some contouring.
Savvy Minerals Misting Spray by Young Living. I’m gaga over this. Kinda ordered 3 bottles to be sure I have some!?! LOL
For whatever it’s worth, I hit my face with a shot of the misting spray as a makeup setting spray and I look and feel AWESOME! Drawing LOTS of compliments on my dewy complexion. 🙂
Additionally, The Farmacist, AKA Dr. Lindsay Elmore, shared a super duper cool tip with us in her makeover video. She makes up a lip balm that is multi-functional, and she learned back in her pageant days that applying her lip balm to her face under her eyes, on cheeks, forehead and blending that in before applying the mineral makeup helps it to adhere to her face. Cool, huh!??
Veil – To Set Your Makeup
Complete your flawless look with a touch of mineral veil setting powder, AKA Diamond Dust. A sheer, mineral-based formula, Veil’s luminizing formula applies smoothly and easily, creates highlights, and blurs fine lines and pores for a glowy, airbrushed finish for all skin tones. Wear our mineral veil powder on its own for a sheer, no-makeup look or over your foundation for a more polished look.
Ideal for sensitive skin, this long-lasting mineral veil finishing powder absorbs excess oil to keep your foundation in place, while keeping you looking radiant. Veil is sheer coverage that does some heavy lifting.
Combine the bronzer, foundation, and veil to create contouring, but that’s not necessary for a simple, bright, clean look. Check out the video tutorial:
Please note, makeup cannot be returned for a refund, but the best part of mineral makeup that it is SO versatile. It’s easily blendable, it’s buildable and totally customizable, so adding another shade of foundation to your collection can make your color exactly what you want it to be! Remember contouring or simply adding bronzer can likely give you what you’re looking for.

And here’s how those look on skin. Pretty, aren’t they?
This is the product I’m hearing the most women rave about because they LOVE the peppermint, which helps to make our lips plump and it freshens our breath. Cuz, the truth is – we EAT like 5 pounds of lip product in our adult life, soooooo, better make it from good stuff!! (click here to read what’s in a typical lip product and why you want to avoid it!)
Savvy Minerals by Young Living Makeup Brush Set
I was surprised to hear that synthetic brushes are what Melissa suggested, but after I understood that one reason is because they don’t have a makeup absorbing cuticle like real hair does, it made more sense. They’re also easier to wash & dry and last longer so, ’nuff said!
Mascara
Mascara is coming this month, plus a lot more makeup over the next two years, thanks to YL’s partnership with industry rock stars!!

Here is Melissa before and after doing her own makeup!

Ladies & gents, I have to tell you… at Convention 2016, “Sweet Savvy” (the name of Melissa’s new ‘baby’, her very own mineral makeup line which has now been acquired by Young Living) this makeup was pretty new, and Melissa had just launched her teen line. I saw her ahead of me on the way to General Session with my 10 yr old girl in tow, and called out to her to ask if my daughter could say ‘hello’.
Let me tell you – she stopped time on a street corner to engage with my daughter, Katy, and she made her feel SO special! (That’s what we need to remember as we go forward in this business, is to take time to love on PEOPLE!) Melissa Poepping modeled that for us and is one of THE most genuinely lovely people I’ve had the pleasure to meet. Maybe because she is just like you and me!? I feel SO blessed that our company still has that ‘small town’ kind of feeling and they promoted one of our own, who developed her own great idea. YAY, Young Living!
Young Living has graciously given us a color swatch card, shown below. Members – you may download this image for yourself.

In summary, I don’t think I said “Made with natural ingredients, not tested on animals, formulated without parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, bismuth, talc, synthetic fragrances, or synthetic colorants” enough. 🙂
If you’re not sure WHY getting these items out of your skincare is a big deal, consider that heavy metals are often in our makeup and have been linked to things like brain fog and later dementia & Alzheimer’s. Parabens, used for preservation on the store shelf, have been found in breast cancer tumors. Johnson & Johnson recently paid out big money to folks who developed cancer after using their baby powder containing talc, after knowing it was causing cancer.
There’s a lot to navigate out there! But the good news is that today there are lots of options for safe and healthy, because ‘We The People’ are SHARING our information, friend to friend and CREATING better products than big box companies! Check out ingredients at the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics site and Environmental Working group’s Skin Deep database to search your cosmetics by name and see how they fare.
