I just watched an episode of Dr. Oz and I’m THRILLED that on his version of ‘shark tank’ a lovely woman presented her recipe for ‘Happy Hour Cleaner’. This dear lady, Leslie Reichert of Boston, MA, became ill and started to research what sorts of things are making people ill. After realizing chemicals in our household cleaners were toxic, she decided to come up with a recipe that went back to the basics using things her grandmother used, like vinegar, lemon, vodka and lemongrass essential oil in homemade cleaning mixtures, and she is now a Green Cleaning Coach!
I am so sorry for all that she must have gone through, but am very grateful for her sharing her story and sharing her recipe with us, so we can stop the cycle of using an insane amount of chemicals in our everyday lives, when we absolutely do not need to.
Happy Hour Cleaner Recipe!
Leslie mixed up her all purpose cleaner (gotta love the happy hour moniker!) using 8 ounces white vinegar and 8-10 drops of lemongrass essential oil, and poured that into her 16 ounce glass spray bottle using a flask funnel. Next she poured 4 ounces fresh lemon juice and 4 ounces of vodka (!) into her glass spray bottle, and topped it off with just a couple drops of Castile soap. (literally, 2 or 3 drops) She shook it up, and after just a few sprays the judges panel across the stage caught a whiff of it and LOVED the smell. That left us with the question, how does it work?!?
Next, the cleaner was put to the test on a hard surface that was just tested with medical grade equipment and registered a 201 level on bacteria. The ‘Happy Hour Cleaner’ was sprayed and only one wipe was made in the area before being immediately retested, and came up with a bacteria level of only 9. NINE! Even Dr. Oz was shocked. But not Leslie. She knows!! Then… she sprayed it in her MOUTH, because..it’s THAT SAFE.
Amen, and thank you Leslie! I love it and can’t wait to try it!
